A short, synthetic compound made of just four amino acids, developed by Russian researchers studying the pineal gland, a small brain structure involved in regulating biological rhythms. It's been studied specifically in relation to telomerase, an enzyme connected to cellular aging, making it a frequently referenced compound in longevity-focused research.
Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) designed from the amino acid composition of epithalamin, a polypeptide extract of bovine pineal gland. It is studied in cell-culture and animal research, including work on telomerase activity in cultured human cells.
Also known as: Epithalon, Epithalone, AEDG.

Epitalon has the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG). It was developed by Vladimir Khavinson’s group in St. Petersburg as a defined synthetic peptide based on the amino acid composition of epithalamin, a mixed peptide extract from bovine pineal gland tissue.
Much of the published work on Epitalon comes from the group that developed it, including the 2003 cell-culture and mouse studies cited below.
Epitalon has not been evaluated by the FDA.
Reported that adding Epitalon to cultured human somatic cells increased telomerase activity and telomere length.
